DCS Final Results 8/27/11
By Gary Woodall
What an amazing night at the "Li'l old dirt track up North" ...........Was it the absolutely standing room only crowd on hand? Was it the 75 plus drivers gathered on the front
straightaway for a group picture with Bill Allen? Was it one of the most exciting Mini Stock 'A' features you'll ever watch? I really don't know, but I do know that the DALLAS
COUNTY SPEEDWAYS last and final race was a ramarkable way for promoter Bill Allen to close the track and go into retirement.
78 cars filled the pit area, track side parking on "Action Avenue" couldn't have held another pickup or person and the bleacher section of the speedway was so full of people
you could barely find a place to walk. Trenton Berry from RacinBoys.com said it best, "Bill Allen is goin out on his own terms" and that he surely did Saturday night. The
racing in every single class, in nearly every heat race and every feature was as "intense, fast and exciting" as you'll see anywhere, he went on to say.
The B-Mod feature would have Shawn Strong in his #14 lead from start to finish to take the win, but it was Ryan Edde in the #15 who would take home the B-Mod Championship for
2011. Cody Nivens #60 and Edde raced each other close and tight throughout the race with Edde coming home 2nd, Nivens 3rd.
Factory Stock feature action started out with Matt Miller in the #17m taking the early lead only to have Dylan Keeppers #75 "track him down" by lap 6 to take the lead and go
on to win the Factory Stock 'A' feature. Keepper would also win the 2011 Factory Stock Championship. The action was wild and crazy all over the track in this race as Doug
Richs' #28 would trash a rear differential early on to end his night while he ran in the top 6. Wilbur Seger in the #38 also had a strong run after being away from the speedway
for a while and ended up 4th. Michael Plummer would have a consistant and solid run in his #35 machine to finish up 3rd, while Miller settled for 2nd. Mark Simon, who was 2nd
in the point standings going into tonights race, would end up starting the race driving his #23 Bomber car from the tailback start position and would end up with a solid 7th
place finish.
The Bomber feature was set to be a "barn burner" from the green flag with Melvin Smith #2-14, Mark Simon #23, Joe Francis #32F, Andrew Neal #28, Richard Adams #32A and Zach
Zugin #01 filling the first 3 rows of the race. With the action seeing lots of "rubbin and paint tradin" throughout the field of cars, Smith would hold off many charges form
Simon to take a well earned and deserved feature win, with Simon finishing 2nd. Joe Francis worked hard and fought for every inch to take 3rd in a hard fought race with
Richard Adams who finished 4th, while Trevor Ellingsworth in the #F1 rounded out the top 5.
Midwest Mod feature action would see a 3 car battle for the lead between Terry Williams #27, Rich Reynolds #7 and Travis Hills #38 until late in the race when Jamie Petty in
the #43 would come on strong to join the battle. Petty would finish 3rd behind Reynolds who got 2nd, Hill would fall to 4th and Terry Williams, who not only won the feature,
but would also end up winning the 2011 Midwest Mod Championship.
Not to be denied, the Mini Stock feature was a "nail biter" from the beginning of the race as Greg Hunt in the #11H, Larry Drake in the #27D and Justin Hunts #12H would put on
a 3 car show that would have fans on their feet for parts of the race. Early contender for the lead, Larry Drake would spin and end up at the rear of the field only to come
charging back within a few laps to challenge for the lead as both the Hunt cars raced each other hard for the lead and often "bounced" off one another. With swapping the lead
back and forth among the 3 drivers, Justin Hunt would sneak out the victory over a very strong running Larry Drake 2nd, and Greg Hunt who settled for 3rd.
Pure Stocks took to the track with 19 cars starting the 'A' feature. Dave Meldrum in his Dodge powered #39 would lead nearly this entire feature race and hold off numerous
challenges from other front runner, Larry Flaughers #22x. With caution flags, spins, wrecks and a handful of laps remaining, Meldrum would conitinue to hold off Flaugher only
to fall to 2nd place going into turn #3 behind him on the last lap and get taken out of the race by a lapped car in the middle of turns #3 & #4. Meldrums Dodge would end up
in the trees off turns #3 and #4 as a sad ending for a very strong run as the checkered flag flew for "Spiderman" Larry Flaughers' #22x. Justin Darby in the #1A would end up
with a solid 2nd place finish after overcoming an early flat tire and being sent to the rear of the field. Matt Darnell in his #5 machine would end up 3rd, but would take home
the 2011 Pure Stock Championship, as Wayne Days #46 would finish 4th and Kurt Sledd in the #1 would round out the top 5. There were a number of cars who ran strong in this race
that fell by the "wayside" as the laps went by and if you weren't there, you missed a very exciting Pure Stock feature race.
