DCS Rusults 8/13/11

By Gary Woodall

With 72 cars in the pits, a full moon,....the 13th day of the month provided for some wild and "crazy" racing action at the Dallas County Speedway last night. Even with a few more caution flags than ususal, fluid spills from cars on the track on 4 different occassions and a red flag because of cars actually "locked" together, the show was still completed in 3 1/2 hours. Track and wrecker crews had a very busy night to say the least and hat's off to them for an outstanding job to keep the show going as quickly as possible.

B-Mod action saw Ryan Edde take the win, but not without losing his right door skin from an earlier incident that put him to the back of the field. Cody Nivens in the #60 took and held on to the lead for much of the race and made Edde work for the win. An outstanding side by side dual for 3rd place between Dewayne Hobbs in the #5H and Ted Ballinger in the #17T for a number of laps with Hobbs taking the spot at the flag. Terry Williams brought his #27 Midwest Mod home in 4th place with Ballinger taking 5th.

The Factory Stock feature had the current points leader, Dylan Keepper #75, on the inside of the front row and points runnerup Mark Simon in the #61 on his outside for an anticipated "repeat" of the "bump and grind" from last weeks feature finish. The two raced each other door to door for a number of laps without even touching before Simon would get up on the cushion and loose 5 spots, but he came back strong and pass Keepper on the outside with about 4 laps to go and win by about 4 car lenghts. Bradley McDowell put on a very good showing for the Ford lovers in the crowd as he was in the mix with Simon and Keepper for the lead much of the race.

14 Bombers would take the green flag in what would be an eventful feature race. Mark Simon #23 and Melvin Smith #2-14 would pace the field to the green as Joe Francis #32 and Dewayne Applegate #161D joined in for a 4 car race for the lead. As the laps went by that saw a number of cautions and a red flag, Simon would continue to lead while Smith would spin with a right front flat and Francis would have problems and resart the race after cautions at the rear. Simon would take the win, but it was Joe Francis "driving the wheels off" the #32 from the back who would come back to take the 2nd spot. Applegate had a strong run finishing 3rd after "flipping" his car in last weeks' heat race.

"Days of Old"....Two 1955 Chevies would start on the front row of an exciting Pure Stock feature and the race was one of the best of the night. Jack Wood in the #K4 and Larry "Spiderman" Flaughers' #22x would come of out turn 4 side by side taking the green flag and raced that way for most of the race. Matt Darnell and his #5 would hang with the leaders, but had to settle for a 3rd place finish tonight.
